As a Managing Partner, Herman is responsible for the overall practice of Philip Sidney and he oversees the technicalities and quality of work. Herman is experienced in applying, organising and auditing compliance
with EU, US and local financial economic crime and security regulations including sanctions and export controls. He has gained regulatory experience through his activities at the Netherlands Central Bank, in the banking sector and accountancy. His extensive legal expertise finds expression in the way he manages to translate laws and regulations into practical agreements and activities. Clients value his drive, his analytical skills and his meticulous approach.
Gert has more than 30 years’ experience in the areas of laws, regulations and supervision. As a lawyer and auditor, Gert has the capacity to translate UN, US and EU regulatory requirements into compliance and control frameworks.
He was responsible for setting up the Dutch Antilles FIU and he has led the AML/CFT supervision of Dutch Central Bank for many years. He also build various regulatory framework including Customer Due Diligence risk-based approach for banks. He worked in the international compliance arena for many years and has published numerous articles on compliance issues. Gert is a Deputy Judge in the Criminal Courts (Fraud & AML) of Amsterdam, Haarlem (including Schiphol) and Maastricht.
Chairman of the Advisory Committee
Peter has served in various roles within commercial and central banks. His main expertise lies in the field of governance for financial organisations which makes him the ideal sounding-board for directors and auditors.
Principals value Peter for his dedication and no-nonsense approach. Peter is also active as a supervisor and director at various financial institutions such as the Pension Fund of the Netherlands Central Bank and Stichting Landelijk Informatiesysteem Schulden (National Debt Information System). Currently, he is the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of Philip Sidney.
Berco’s 33 years of experience is equally divided into business functions and consulting, with a focus on advising board level to (re)define goals and implement strategy in structure, processes and procedures, and IT.
His specialties are de-complexifying business issues, risk analysis and risk handling. He supported the Central Bank of the Netherlands in aspects of ‘Solvency II’. Berco has co-authored in ’10 Jaar Compliance’, educational books and has written some publications. Besides analytical skills, Berco assumes the role of a Lead Project Manager at Philip Sidney.
After studying Naval Architecture, Erick started his career within Stork and was later appointed as Managing Director of Stork Thailand.
His industry knowledge, creative thinking and management skills made him return to the Netherlands as a Program Manager in Fokker Aerostructures. After several management positions, in 2003 Erick became responsible (EVP) for managing the Fokker participation in American fighter aircraft development program, the Joint Fight Striker ‘JFS’ (later named F-35). A combination of political sense, business entrepreneurship and perseverance is required for such an environment. Erick is currently active in process and tooling development with the aim to reduce the Cost of Compliance in the Global trade environment
Jaap van Dijk
Jaap has extensive experience as director (CFO, CFRO, CEO) with two financial institutions and has often been confronted with very challenging governance and in-control issues regarding business operations and associated risks.
Close interaction with external accountants, regulators and supervisors was part of his work. Jaap, therefore, knows how to keep a fine balance between what is explicitly required by the regulatory authorities and its translation into practicable yet effective solutions.
During his banking time, Jaap was responsible for many global M&A transactions of a large multinational corporation and has worked for 15 years at the Ministry of Finance (export credit insurance, legislation on banking supervision, management/privatisation of state-owned enterprises and the provision of corporate finance with partial government guarantee). In brief: Jaap has worked in for various sectors and businesses and is in a position to take a helicopter view, considering business issues from different angels, zooming in on detail if necessary and may consider issues from multiple perspectives.
Joost is a senior financial professional. Having worked 25 years for major financial institutions in board positions, he joined Philip Sidney as an associate partner in February 2016.
Joost advocates business development with a keen eye on risk management. Recently, Joost advised BlackRock and Kas Bank on strategic development projects. Within Delta Lloyd Bank (his tenure as CEO lasted 7 years) he established a new risk management framework with a division of financial and non-financial (compliance, operational and reputational) risks. As a member of the Consumers affairs Committee of the Dutch Banker’s Association, Joost co-authored the Mortgage Market Code of Conduct. Joost is the chairman of the Foundation of Dutch Certified Mortgage Planners. Joost gained throughout his career in-depth knowledge of the retail banking and structured finance markets. As a board member of different European banks he is experienced with international standards like Basel II and III, Solvency II, EU sanctions, FATF guidance and Corporate Governance Codes

Damien is a French lawyer dedicated to a worldwide approach of governance (security, home affairs, justice sector, international trade) issues.
He developed a wide experience in legal and management advice in Europe, Africa, Northern Africa and Egypt, for both public and private sector. His sense of diplomacy makes him comfortable in multicultural environments. He is the author of “Commerce et sécurité, les exportations sensibles dans la mondialisation”, L’Harmattan. Since 2014, Damien has been associated with Philip Sidney. He manages its Francophone market in Financial Economic Crimes, Export Controls and Security Sector Reform.
Hedieh is an experienced international lawyer with a focus on international trade compliance and anti-money laundering (“AML”) laws and regulations.
Max graduated with a LL.M.in Financial Law from Erasmus University of Rotterdam and has a background in the Insurance industry. Previously, he worked for Allianz Benelux in the area of financial economic crime prevention
and meeting applicable compliance obligations. With his pragmatic approach and analytical skills, Max supports our clients at the compliance policy level, practical compliance procedures and measures, varying from classification of military and dual-use goods and technology, export license applications, to customer due diligence and transaction due diligence including 3rd party screening. Max is a Dutch native speaker, fluent in English and has a good knowledge of German and French.

Liza moved to the Netherlands after graduating from King’s College London with a Master’s Degree in International Political Economy. She brings with her more than a decade of experience as an investigative journalist in her home country and also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Media and Communications.
She holds a dual role as Editor and Financial Economic Crime Consultant. As the firm’s in-house writer, she writes and edits, develops its white papers, while providing commentaries on the firm’s participation in events, conferences, workshops as subject matter experts. As a Consultant she assists financial institutions in risk assessment by identifying relevant Anti-Money Laundering/Counter Financing Terrorism risks and setting the foundation for thoughtful risk determinations. She also performs required KYC/CDD measures including Screening, Politically Exposed Persons screening, identification of group structure, Ultimate Beneficial Ownership and independently determines the client source of funds and their business. Liza is bilingual in English and her native language Malay (spoken in Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore). She now devotes herself to learning the Dutch language.
Loes has wide operational experience in the Aerospace industry’s import and export compliance. Previously, she worked for Lockheed Martin Commercial Flight Training, setting up and managing the shipping department.
As shipping manager, she helped the legal counsel establish an Internal compliance program. She was also responsible for classification of dual-use goods, export license applications, third-party screening and provided in-house compliance awareness trainings. Graduated with a B.Com in International Business and Languages, she has a strong work ethic and is focused on creating a workable solution for our clients’ compliance issues.
Caroline brings a wide range of operational experience acting as an Office Manager and PA. She is responsible for the company’s administration, invoicing and coordinates the Planning, CRM system and HR.
Previously, she was a Team Manager at one of the big national banks in The Netherlands, besides sales also, responsible for screening and compliance awareness within her team.
